What the researchers describe

Tibane Labs reports that the added hardware observes the screen data used to display recovery words and sends captured information over a cellular connection. The report distinguishes multiple specimens and generations; this is physical modification of genuine hardware.

What Ledger has confirmed

Ledger’s October 10 statement confirms an implant in one impacted user’s device and says the investigation is ongoing. It reports no indication that its own infrastructure, systems or services were compromised. CryptoBilis halted hardware wallet sales.

Patch status

No firmware-only remedy is established in the cited update. Ledger says it is working on additional anti-tampering measures. A software update should not be represented as removing an added physical implant.

Vendor guidance for affected purchasers

Ledger advises purchasers from the reseller not to begin setup if they have not already done so. For initialized devices, it suggests considering a new signer with a new seed. Consult the official support channels for current, case-specific guidance. Never submit recovery words to a website or a support agent.
